Karting is an American born-and-bred racing sport. Popularized in the late fifties and early sixties by guys and gals who had an affinity for speed at an affordable price, karting became a popular form of racing. Small tracks all across America were built and racing organizations, such as the IKF or International Karting Federation were formed and national events organized. Popularity grew immensely. International organizations were formed and karting became an international racing venue. As competition and technology continued to grow, the karts became more advanced and much faster. Kart racing demands quick reaction skills and consistent driving lines to be a top performance driver. Karting became "the place" to begin a racing career. Nearly all of the race drivers in Formula 1, Champ Car, Indy Car, IMSA, Nascar, to name a few, started their career in karting. It is recognized as a driverŐs form of racing due to the unique way of equalizing the competition by using strict weight and engine restrictions.
